Picked up this awesome uniform earlier this year. ID'd to Arthur Anthony Lombardo who was the XO of Alpha Battery 1st Batallion 11th Marines during the Battle Of Guadalcanal. The uniform is dated 4/5/41 and still has his Captain bars on it. Born on Dec 9th, 1917 in New Haven, Connecticut, Maj Lombardo attended Quinnipiac College and was a graduate of Boston University in 1940. Later that year he enlisted in the Marine Corps in Oct 1940 and went to OCS in Quantico, VA. After OCS and schooling he was sent to H&S Battery 2/11 in New River, NC in Oct 1941 then was transferred to Lima Battery 4/11 the same month. He was then transferred to Alpha Battery 1/11 a couple months later where he would be their XO and would fight in the Battle Of Guadalcanal. Maj Lombardo was promoted to Captain while on Guadalcanal. After Guadalcanal in April 1943 Maj Lombardo was transferred to India Battery 3/14 in Camp Lejune, NC where he would be their Battery CO. After his time with India Battery 3/14 he was sent to the Rifle Range on Parris Island in July 1943. He would do various roles at the rifle range until October 1944 when he was stationed at Naval Base Balboa, Canal Zone(Panama Canal). While stationed there he was the Commandant Of Security for the Panama Canal and was promoted to Major. He spent a little over a year in the Panama Canal and was then sent back to the states in Jan 1946 and was stationed at the Marine Barracks on the US Naval Base in Boston, MA. In April 1946 he was sent up to the Marine Barracks at the US Naval Shipyard in Brooklyn, NY. During this time in 1946 is when I believe he was separated from active duty service and was placed into the reserves. His records indicate in July 1946 he was apart of the First Marine Corps Reserve District in Boston, MA. A few records for him popped up from 1951 and 1952 for the Officers Volunteer Reserve and Inactive Status, both for the First Marine Corps Reserve District. He spent the rest of his life in Massachusetts and passed away on Dec 17th, 2006. He is buried in Stoughton, MA.
