Hello All,

I’ve been looking for a bayonet for my 1917 Winchester rifle for a while and ran across this one.
The price was fair so I’m pretty happy with it.
There are a lot of people here that know way more about these than me so please let’s here any opinions or comments.

Thank you very much in advance!!

Sincerely,

Hayman

Thanks, John1980.
It’s really crazy how the prices have gone up so much on these. I’m pretty sure that’s what I paid for the rifle not too many years ago.

Hayman,

It's always nice to see a Winchester 1917, but as you may know, Remington would be the most common maker and as such would be totally correct for your rifle. Your scabbard is correct. It is either made by Jewel Belting Co., or by Graton and Knight, which also made leather belts.  The GF on the metal chape and on the throat, is generally agreed to be General Fireproofing.

Nice bayonet.

The image of the ricasso area is not clear to me. There could be some additional information on it.

Congratulations on obtaining a scarce and desirable M1917 Winchester bayonet. Scabbard could use some tlc....

Thank you both for the information. I have attached a couple more pictures with some more details.
As for the scabbard cleanup is there a specific process anyone would recommend? I was reluctant to do anything to the leather  and metal without further research.

    Thanks in advance,

Thank you, John1980. I’ve heard of it but never tried it on anything so I will need to get some to try to clean up that leather a bit.

Thanks for the advice,

Hayman

Hayman-

Ricasso shows "X" , indicating bend test completed (common). "US" shows double stamp, (uncommon). "Eagle" acceptance stamp facing left is very scarce, commonly faces right.

So, scarce, on scarce, on scarce....my $.02.

Thanks hyrax222.

On the double stamp “US” was there any reason for this besides a random light stamping or was there maybe a group of these that were double stamped?

I have read about the left facing eagle but didn’t realize it was pretty uncommon. I wonder how many of those were actually stamped that way?

I really appreciate all of the input here.
Thank you all very much.
