I've read were some of those showed up in Vietnam as a private purchase item.

 

If so does anyone have a pic of them in USGI use during that period? 

 

It was first produced in 1959.

 

I doubt if this one was there but was it a secondary knife during that period?

I also have tried to find a photo of this knife being carried in Vietnam.  No luck.  You have likely seen this photo in your quest.

I would have liked to had one as a teen bowfishing for carp....It would have made for a fine head knocker and other things....LOL....I would have likely lost it by throwing it.
