Guadalcanal to the Berlin Airlift German Made Ribbons

Hello, I recently got this uniform in and i’m having trouble narrowing down his service. I believe him to have served on Guadalcanal with the Americal Division and then stayed in the Army during the Berlin Airlift. I’m welcome to any thoughts or opinions on the uniform as I find the post 54 stripes with no NDSM somewhat odd.

Were army units in Guadalcanal awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for Navy and Marine Corps? If not he may have had prior service with the Marines.

The answer is yes. Not to mention there is no other Navy or Marine Corps ribbon on the ribbon bar and he was clearly in pre war considering he also has the American Defense Ribbon.
