March 31, 20251 yr #2 So I will not pretend to be authoritative on the matter, but I'll share what I learned. I worked with a Nepali for a few years , and his father was a Gorkha. Abishek gifted me with one from his town, and when I asked him, here's what he said: These are utility knives found in every household, and the manufacturing of them is very much a cottage industry throughout the region. Very few have maker's marks, as it is kind of like how the horseshoe industry was in the American west, everyone had a local guy, and while they all tend to look very similar, certainly people had a particular approach, but nothing that stood out. You just get one as needed from a local smith. There are probably some stories smiths out there, but it's not widely known or documented. So, FWIW, from the mouth of a Nepali.
