Hello

What are your thoughts on the HBTs?

  • Some have faded ink stamps in the neck area
  • outline of Current AF stripes
  • Not in the best of condition
  • One has pocket on the sleeves
  • WW2 thru Post KW ?

Thank you

Tony

The first two appear to be heavily modified which was a common thing in Korea during and after the war. The first one has sleeve pockets added and it looks like the breast pocket may have been modified and the collar replaced. The second one looks be coveralls that have been cut down to make a jacket. The last one is a first pattern HBT jacket that was introduced just before WWII and I see no modifications to it. It is hard to say just when they were used. The first one probably Korean or later.  The second one defiantly Korean War or later because to the Air Force strips. The last one probably WWII as it is so early they were mostly out of the supply system by the 1950s but can't say for sure.

Both shirts look to be WW2 era. The first as stated modified or reworked 2nd pattern where the front breast pocket shortened to mre the later specs. The other shirt is the 1st pattern with the take up tabs so early WW2 . Not uncommon to see these shorts worn even into early Vietnam. I have a WW2 shirt with USAF/ Air Commando insignia on it from Vietnam
