Hi everyone, have a great Sunday.

I'd like to ask what you think about this box.

Is it okay? Or some kind of "fantasy" piece?  Fake?

Thank you

Lubos

I think it's well done but not original.  I messed around making one of these decades ago.  It's fine for a display, which was my purpose.

Definitely a fantasy box. Someone took an untitled box and stamped it.

Thank you very much for your opinions gentlemen. I had my suspicions, even though it looks very nice. At least I have a clear understanding.

Thank you

Way back in the day, medal dealer Paul Peters made a bunch of these medal cases. Many of the cases that he used were Purple Heart and Air Medal cases. You could see the embossed lettering on the lid, though he had removed the gold leaf.

Paul would charge different prices for these cases depending on how good or how not so good they looked. I think it is very possible that this is one of the boxes done by Paul. I would say that this would have been one of the more expensive boxes that he would have sold.

You have to remember that this was back when you could buy titled cases for just a few bucks. I'd assume that Paul never saw anything wrong with making them to fill holes in his customers' collections.
