New Book on US Naval Awards of the Spanish American War

Some of you are aware that Allen Menke and I have been working on a book covering the US Naval awards of the Spanish-American War for quite some time. I didn't know exactly where to publicize it on this forum, but this seemed as good a place as any. The book is under review by Amazon and should be available around February 18, give or take a day or two. Many people here contributed to the book, and I hope you will be pleased with the result. Attached are some photos and text from a brochure that will be passed around by Allen at the Show of Shows.

Been waiting for this one for a while. Very excited. Will any copies be available at the SOS or  just the brochure?  I will be watching Amazon closely!

The Book is NOW AVAILABLE! If you have an Amazon Prime Account, there is a 16% discount because it is a new title.

The book just went live today on Amazon, so all that Allen will have at the SOS is the brochure.

Thanks! I purchased my copy last night. Supposed to arrive Thursday. I will be at the show, but looking forward to seeing it when I get back. It looks fantastic!

That was fast as greased lighting.  I ordered the book on Amazon this past Saturday afternoon, the first day it was available, and it arrived at my front door today after the Presidents' Day Monday holiday.    BZ John and Allen!   Your book's a must for collectors or those interested in the Navy / Marine Corps medals of the Spanish American War, including  a concise history of all the ships and  operations along with the medal rolls.    It's  chockablock with new research material never published before and the hard-cover production value is top notch.  I'm going to be up late tonight poring over it.    I don't have Amazon Prime but nonetheless I got the 16% discount,  apparently because it's a new publication and also free shipping, but no telling how long the discount will last.   What are you planning for an encore?  This one's a tough act to follow.

Just received my copy.  It covers my favorite medals, so it was a must-have.

I am very pleased with it.
Nobody should buy a Sampson or Dewey Medal before buying this book.

I couldn’t agree more. I am still reading through my copy. I certainly recommend it as well and it is really neat that forum members wrote and contributed to it.

Something I noticed, for those that buy the book you can see its birthday on the back of the last page at the bottom, kind of neat.   Made in the USA (of course), and the safest bet to come out of Las Vegas, NV.    I think of the forum members no longer with us  (Barry, Robin and Garth come to mind), who collected these medals, enjoyed  the research of them,  and would have loved to see this book.

Interesting USS Balto Dewey repro on ebay now, I've seen worse.   Interesting that my prelim research shows that the actual crewman was from NY, where this medal is being sold from.   But engraving is terribly crude.   Seller represents it as repro, so good on them.
