I oil the blade often, and there is no rust anywhere. I'm leaving the knife alone other than oiling the blade, so i don't ruin anything. thanks for all the help, i'm glad i joined this forum!

Hello,

I picked up this one this weekend from a friend who bought it from an elderly collector's estate in France. Paid next to nothing.

Is this an old copy ? Although I have big doubts on its authenticity, the patina and wear are not fake so if its a repro it must be quite old.

It is marked Case on teh blade but the marking is quite faint.

Many thanks.

Im not getting a fuzzy feeling on the knife in post #27.The number and type of staples in the throat of the scabbard are not consistant in style with original full length scabbards. Also the scabbards I have use the coffin staples all the way up the scabbard,a total of seven per side.THe one in post 27 has the round rivits at the coners of the throat. Also on the upper belt loops the rivits have a washer under them on my original..Also mine have 21 grooves in the thumb print. Some close ups would help but Im not getting a good vibe on this one.

Hello,

Thanks very much for your comments. Very interesting. The belt loops rivits dont seem to have a washer under them on mine.

I will take close up pics in daylight.

The knife in #27 is a repro. Look at the differences in the thumbprint and in the hollow grind of the original blade. Decent job weathering it, but it looks like that's one of the Chinese copies.

Jon,

You said it!!!I wasnt liking the grind of the blade either.THe Force knives were double hollow ground and even with all the wear and weathing the blade should still show/have the definition to the grind bevels below the thumb print.

Below is a Case V-42 I bought last year at a flea market for $40. It came with its original sheath. What's really amazing is that a collector friend of mine who's been collecting military for 30 years passed on it. I asked him why and he said there were no military markings on it. What a huge break for me!
