December 29, 20241 yr #1 Hello, I recently bought a M1943 field jacket that is VERY VERY dirty in the pockets. I also have a M1950 field jacket but isn't as dirty. I was wondering how to clean the M43 & M50 field jacket. Can I handwash it or get it dry cleaned? (M43 is in excellent condition on the outside so I don't know if it will fade) Thanks.
December 30, 20241 yr Author #2 I just washed the M1950 jacket. There is still terrible stains on the bottom pockets. Anyone know how to get rid of them? I'm thinking if dry cleaning the M43 jacket (M43 is in excellent condition on the outside so I don't know if it will fade) Thoughts? Thanks.

December 31, 20241 yr #4 Hello, Question for you...for the 43 field jacket...is the dirt on the inside of the pockets or on the outside? If the jacket is in excellent condition as you state...and the stains/dirt is on the inside of the pockets not directly affecting the appearance of the item, I would simply vacuum the pockets and then leave them as is. As for dry cleaning...I know fellow collectors who do it all the time (they have local companies they always work with that take special care with their items) and they don't seem to have any problems. As for me, I have never had a uniform dry cleaned and probably never will. I clean items (when necessary) myself and rarely use anything more then luke- warm water and Dawn dish soap. I try to do as little cleaning as possible simply because it can be a horrible "rabbit hole" once you start. As for fading...you just never know being the material and dye is now several decades old!?! Hope this helps... Steve
