AVG Flying Tiger painting in China

I stumbled across this while answering a question on another thread about the AVG (American Volunteer Group), also known as the Flying Tigers.

For all of the ups and downs that have occurred in post 1949 relations with China, it makes you wonder if they had completely written us out of their history books.

Judging by the painting that is shown here that does not seem to be completely the case.

This was posted on a travel photo site:

From the notes included on it, it is somewhere near Beijing or Chongqing (which was probably Chunking under the old spelling).

While it is a nice surprise to see they still remember the aid that was given to them, you will note that conveniently missing from view are the blue and white stars of the Nationalist Chinese.

In fairness, the same museum does display this item, and mentions that the stamp is that of Generalissamo Chiang Kai-shek, a name that was previously not normally mentioned in public display.

Also this China National Airways Corporation patch...

And the Ferry Command patch...

Gil: Over the years when the AVG vets would go back to visit many noted how well they were treated by the Government and civilians they would meet. Thankfully, their efforts and sacrifices were not forgotten.
