December 4, 20241 yr #1 Hello Gentlemen (and any ladies that might be here) I picked up fairly nice standard US made patch, but it has a bit of a water stain on it. any suggestions on removing that without messing with the patch? (my usual default is "do nothing - don't mess it up") I'll post a pic later- Thanks!
December 11, 20241 yr Author #6 Well Crap. Let this be a cautionary tale. I started by soaking it in plain lukewarm water in a bowl- after the water turned a little brown I replaced it, and did it again. Not much was happening to the stain, so I added a bit of Woolite (for dedicates). I let it sit a few days. After that I took it out to rinse it off and now there is a spot where the threads have literally dissolved. Maybe this was a burn, or some dry rot, or some other chemical. (Ironically the stain is still there too, mocking me.) So, I guess the moral of the story is when in doubt- do nothing.
April 25, 20251 yr #8 I too have patches in my collection that are stained but not sure about how they got that way, so I leave them alone. If I know of how the stains got there (mice that peed on some of my patches) I know how to wash them.
