November 23, 20241 yr #1 Being a huge army PTO fan and collector I had to pick this one up. I try to stick with named items but if the insignia is nice enough I’m definitely picking it up. The 158th IR, nicknamed the Bushmasters, served as an independent Regimental Combat Team in WWII. Some elements entered combat in late 1943, but as a whole started combat operations in 1944 in New Guinea. The next fought in 1945 during the Invasion of Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines. The rest of the war would find them taking part in further combat in the Philippines, in 1945 they performed occupation duty in Japan. The SSI is an absolutely stunning Japanese made silk example of a Bushmasters patch. I had been looking for an example of the infantry patch on a uniform for a few years, as I own a red 147th FAB variant on an ike of a solider who was with them for occupation duty.
