Another small estate sale find this weekend from my dad.

 

 

-Technician Fourth Grade (x4)

-US Army/Engineer Enlisted Collar Disks - These are a thinner more lightweight material compared to the couple other WWII collar disks I have in the collection, which are screwbacks.  Initial research indicates these are referred to as "Type V" collar disks, and do indeed go back to 1943ish.

-Ruptured Duck Button, thin patch, and heavy patch - Is the thinner patch for a lighter shirt and the heavy for a jacket?

-Overseas Service Bar (x4 and x3) - Is there a typical way to interpret a lot with this combination?  (e.g. Likely 2 years overseas service with the x3 bar being his previously issued one?)

-1st Engineer Brigade Shoulder Patch (x2) - Not sure if this is specifically for the 1st Engineer Brigade, or if this had multiple uses.

-Army Amphibious Training Command Patch (x2) - Two different variations of these here.

-United States Maritime Service Patch - What exactly is this?  Does this maybe not belong with the rest of this Army stuff?

-Meritorious Unit Commendation Patch - Would this have been awarded to the 1st Engineer Brigade?

-Various Ribbons (American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, Victory, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, Philippine Liberation, and Good Conduct) - Anything to make of the way certain of these are barred together and others loose, as well as duplicates?  The more faded Good Conduct has a plastic cover on it.

-Canvas Bag - Great thing about this is that it has a laundry number on it: M-4047.  Haven't had the chance to look up yet, but will try soon.

 

 

Any thoughts or info you could provide on this lot would be greatly appreciated.

 

Does it all look like it indeed could have belonged to the same individual?  I did see photos of a few other WWII era items at the estate, including what looked like Marine Corps jackets, so maybe there's a chance that it could be a mix of different individuals.

I'd say its two different individuals. Could be brothers? who knows....  

everything but the USMS probably the same guy. IMO

The disc are what collectors refer to as Type 5 WW2

USMS- United states Maritime Service (Merchant Marine)

The 1/2" ribbon bars are typically Navy or Marine. But I've seen them on many Army uniforms.

Do you know what kind of patch that is for the USMS?  (i.e. is it a particular shirt patch, etc?)

 

It's a nice little set that displays well.  Just lives on the edge of being able to display it all in one riker.
