September 9, 20241 yr #1 Something caught my eye on eBay recently and I won it, but I do have some questions about it. The description claimed that it was a custom tailored ETO Ike jacket (this is a serge OD field one, not a green service one.) I was interested in it because I’ve never seen a tailored one of these, not to mention the fact that the insignia and wings are very useful on it if it is indeed original. And I also really enjoy the look of the 9th Air Force patches. In its favor are the fact that the collar is a shape I’ve never seen before and the presence of the silk lining. Against it are the fact that the mark on the lining doesn’t look anything like a custom tailor’s to me, there is no label, and the overall stitching looks pretty rough, as I’m used to seeing in the mass produced/issued ones. Buckles look like the mass produced/issued ones as well. The mark and other parts actually made me think it might simply be another country’s Ike jacket, as you tend to see those types of marks on them, possibly British. But then plenty about it reads American to me (the wool, overall design, buckle type, and, in the small chance any of it’s original to the jacket, the patch and insignia). Help? Thanks!
September 10, 20241 yr Author #2 Well, @Mattplatt to the rescue again! (He solved this thread for me as well: ) The jacket in question is actually a 1950s Canadian Cadet one. If you have a look at another one, you'll see the same lining and maker's mark: https://www.ebay.com/itm/116193463531 You can even see, on the one I won, where they removed the Canadian label: So there you have it! Thanks @Mattplatt!!!
September 10, 20241 yr #3 That odd Maple leaf mark is for Canada. That is a Canadian Army style battledress Jacket, and I believe it is post WW2. (Just noticed that it was Id'ed above) My apologies.
