While cleaning out my storage area, I came across this item in a box of miscellaneous things.

I do not remeber when or where I acquired this and have not seen it in at least 25 years.  There were three indentical folders in the group.  Imagine my surprise when I opened them and found the menu in one.

The existance of this document,  if real, raises many questions.

The folder and document do not show any signs of damage leading to the conclusion that it was not aboard during the attack and following events.  The paper does not have any watermarks or other identifying elements.  It appears to have been a mimeographed copy.  It was not attached to the folio, just set inside loosely.  The folder is approximately 6 3/4" x 11 1/2" and is covered in a pebble grain leatherette or vinyl material.

The menu format is similar to other menus I have seen.

Would the Officer's Mess protocol have menus presented in this type of folder?
Does the fact that this meal would have been Sunday evening dictate a more formal type presentation for the meal?

Is this document significant enough to 'fake'?

 

 

A quick internet search did not turn up anything similar or any information providing additional insight.
I will be contacting several USS Arizona associations and groups to see if they have any information about this item.

Somewhere in my stuff, I have an Arizona wardroom mess menu from 1940. It looks nothing like this. 

As far as I'm concerned, this one is fake.

The folder is real the insert is fake. "Fotofolio" leads me to believe the folder was made to hold a photograph.

Dave, or any other Navy type, are the terms "Officer's Mess", or "Officers' Mess" and "Wardroom" unique to a specific location or are they used to reference the same area?
