A very nice original Antarctica Service Medal ribbon with Bronze Wintered Over Disk and National Defense Service Medal ribbon, attributed to a Construction Mechanic 3rd Class who wintered over 1966-67.

 

I have found a great Operation Deep Freeze yearbook for that time period with lots of names and photos hoping to find reference to this recipient.

I was looking online at the Navy Arctic ribbons and I saw a couple that had one small bronze star.. what would this be for?  

 

I’m aware of the “wintered over” disc (and clasp for medal).. but why a star?

Edited…. I might be confusing two different medals.. Arctic vs Antarctica..?

You are talking about the Antartica Medal - If a sailor made 2 separate trips to Antarctica but did not "Winter Over" than a star would make sense.

Yes, Antarctica medal/ribbon..  his paperwork does say “wintered over” with brass… not sure how many months are considered “wintered over”

 

here’s what I have.. looks like he went a couple of times if I’m reading it right

 

- December 1966 to October 1967

- October 1968 to Feb 1969 

- October 1969 to Feb 1970
