July 27, 20241 yr #1 I went to a local all city garage sale this morning and found this USMC P1944 HBT jacket for 5 dollars. I asked the seller if this belonged to a relative possibly so I could get a name but it was given to the seller by a vintage clothing store owner. I believe these were produced during WW2 but too late to be issued out so they were used during the Korean War. It looked mint until I got it home and there are a number of tiny holes in the back. I did find the date of 1950 and a name written on the underside of the pocket flap. However I can only clearly make out the first name of "Peter" and middle initial of "L." The last name I can't make out as it looks like Hecken???ble.
July 28, 20241 yr #2 Oh yesssss! That is a great find, my friend, and fairly rare. Rare, as it’s a bona fide Korean War WIA piece, and you just don’t see much of it. That belonged to: CPL Peter L. Heckenlaible - E Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division - MOS: 0311 (Infantry) - Wounded In Action: 3/15/1951 - MCSN: 632062 He was born 11/22/1928 First enlistment: 9/25/1946 to 9/9/1948 Deceased: 1/23/2004 His first enlistment had him at the Marine barracks at the Naval Station in Seattle for a short time, before being assigned to Adak, Alaska. Congrats again, on a really nice jacket. Wow!
