Case V42

With the limited pics available that are attached to the listing, are any of you keen eyed professionals able to identify, spot or otherwise question the authenticity of this V42? Currently up for bid on eBay sitting at $1,830 with a day and a half till end (which I’m sure will skyrocket). The sheath is not original as its a post war replacement. Certainly has caught my attention, and others I’m sure, just wanted to throw it out there for other more seasoned veterans to potentially examine. Appreciate any time spent looking it over!

DBURDBUSH45,  I am not interested in purchasing the knife.  I would like as much information as possible about the sheath from others.  I am not an expert with these but have a nice example of the knife.  Most of the sheaths I have seen are the longer version so I would like to know more about this one.  Thanks all and keep up the hunt.

So I overlooked the sheath not being original to the knife, my bad.  I would still like information about it like what knives were they paired with and when?

Went for $4250, seller’s market I guess

Yea, I watched this “launch” with the final 30 seconds of the bidding. Can only imagine how much more it could’ve possibly gone if it had had its original sheath also. It most certainly is a sellers market!

The sheath looks like it was copied after one that was used for the Raider stiletto.  But parts of it don't match up with the originals.  I suspect it was made sometime post-war by someone who knew their leather working.

I watched the final few minutes of the eBay sale of this knife and a Marine stiletto by the same seller about 5 minutes apart.  Both were nice knives, but way too much for me.

Nice V42.  I personally knew a veteran who had his V2 and carried it in an M6 scabbard. Never asked him why or how he acquired the M6.

This scabbard posted reminds me of the V42 scabbards for the knives we see with the USS Omaha embossed scabbards. The Navy procured 70-100 or the V42 knives for the Landing party of the Omaha I recall. The scabbard posted looks to have some age and appears to be made in the style of the scabbards seen wit the Omaha V42s. Someone did a great job making the scabbard

Here is a USS Omaha V42 posted on the forum for reference.

Like everyone else I had followed this baby. My initial inclination was also a USS Omaha not stamped. Then I checked out pics of the Omaha scabbards, quite a bit different, but agree to it being well made. I wouldn't object to one of those for an M3 trench knife.  SKIP

must be..its being attached to all the topics like spammer would do. Poster and auction both out of Canada. No one will pay that for a V42 sans scabbard. Have seen a couple mint boxed examples sell for less

I've got mine and am still looking for a scabbard mate. Thought the topic of this post was V-42s, but feel free to ask if you want me to remove the data I posted. Thought might be relevant for other guys looking for this piece. Cheers.
