I was super happy to order this one, first airborne uniform for me and from an unique unit. I've spent the last few days digging into the 511th PIR's history and it's been an interesting read. Technically named inside to one D BAAS but I have had no luck looking up his name. Seller had another uniform from what I can assume is the same soldier so might try and keep the two together.

Great find.  I found a D. L. Baas listed in the 1952 511th PIR Yearbook (see link) as serving with Company I, 511th PIR, 11th Abn Div.  This is all I was able to locate.

While your Ike jacket appears to be a WWII pattern, the chevrons and the oval scream mid 1950's. I wouldn't be surprised if this was worn when the 11th was in Germany rather than in Japan. Noting that the oval is sewn just above the pocket flap, even with Staff Sergeant chevrons, your veteran probably had very few ribbons, so you are probably looking for a soldier who enlisted or was drafted in the Korea era.

 

I'm glad you were able to acquire it and hope that you are eventually able to identify the previous owner.

This was the other uniform that's being offered which i'm like 60% sure came from the same Baas

Second uniform has SSI ghosting on the left shoulder, red threading so i'm leaning towards it being 5th Infantry Division. 

Haven't gotten any answers from the seller on what the patch could've been but the jacket I have currently is dated to May 10th 1944. Also has a zipper, sewn shut interior pocket and breast pockets.
