Well take a gander at this lovely set up. Offered on FB MktPlce out of Darlington, SC. Don't know if he's on the forum, but he's put A LOT $$ into some pretty nice fantasy pieces. I gave him a little heads up on one obvious offering that might garner him a little more attention than they're looking for.  The bones of these may be good, but the finishing has got a lot of be-dazzled sparkles.

Got these replies from the seller: 

 

1. General Barrow. The 27th Commandant of the USMC. Participated in WWII, Korea & Vietnam. 41 yes svc 1942-1983. Acquired from estate sale in Calif. 

 

2. I need to look for name. I do not believe so but will check.

Ribbons look right for him.

If the sword blade is etched with his name, I'm convinced.

Curious if the sword is etched with this name as Kurt mentioned above. 

Too bad his USMC Commandant dress hat was not included.  

So whats the obvious "Fantasy" problem with this uniform? Am I missing something?

 

 

There is the possibility that "I" mis-spoke. HOWEVER .... He has some others listed that, oh go look for yourself and report back and you'll see where my mind was tracking. IF .. these are all legit, then someone on the forum can speak on their behalf.  The seller has informed me he is not on this forum.

As for him posting not one but TWO uniforms with that particular neck order, here is his response to my comment about selling a uniform with the "button". Seems pretty sure of himself. Far be it for me to TELL anyone what they can do. I "suggested" he might be careful about selling items that included "IT".  BUT .. we've all been involved in one of those discussions. 

 

Replicas are not illegal and are vastly different from the authentic Presidental Presented MOH. I refer to AR 670-1 Wear and Appearance of the Military Uniform states clearly " It is not legal to possess, buy sell or trade a Medal of Honor. The regulation is stating the actual presented medal of Honor. It is by default legal to buy sell, trade or possess the replicas and any other decoration. I have researched this and 21 years active duty, Gulf war Veteran and OIF, OEF I am aware. The Gman will not be hounding me as #1 I am not selling this as authentic which would be illegal. It is a replica to satisfy the service members completeness and correctness of their awards and uniform. Thank very much Dave from SC. No one will remove a facsimile or reproduction of any award as the repro of MOH is not an actual MOH.

I am SO confused,  Not following this at all.   But, I’m guessing you may be referring to the fact he has another uniform for sale that belonged to someone awarded an MOH? 
So this Barrow uniform, while accurate, is a put together?  If so,  the sword probably isn’t named? 

So here is what my takeaway is now that I have viewed other listings from the seller. You're welcome to disagree with me but I would not feel comfortable purchasing a uniform from this particular seller because there appears to be a pattern of uniforms with every bell and whistle a newer, unsuspecting collector would jump at. Every uniform listed is some type of highly-regarded specialty piece (MoH recipient, submariner, flag officer, Navy SEAL, etc) but none appear to be named or include provenance. The ribbon racks are also blatantly pieced together on most of these, either being obvious orders from a surplus store or ribbon rack creator or pieced together from possibly original ribbon. The subarminer uniform, for example, has a ribbon rack that makes no sense whatsoever. The others upon further inspection don't pass the sniff test. 

 

It would seem these are surplus or put-together. Stay away. 

 

 

In the context of all of that.  Yes.   Big no go on this uniform.
