May 3, 20242 yr #1 Last week I saw this beautiful USAAF Hamilton AN5740 navigation pocket watch. How can tell if it’s real from WWII or a later conflict like the Korean War or Vietnam War? The seller said it was from WWII period. Would the serial number be the year - AF42? The dial face has GCT below the 24 hour mark. The 2 photos are for this watch. The markings on the back is as follows AN 5740 MFR’S PART NO. 4992B Serial NO. AF42-18517 CONTRACT NO. W535ac-28072 HAMILTON WATCH CO. Because I also saw a similar pocket watch, same dial face marking GCT . The owner wouldn’t let me take a picture of the back but I was able to write it down. The back had the following… Navigation Master Watch Type AN5740 H.W.CO PAR with 4 more letters or numbers then ended with 3386 DAAA25-68-CO616 U.S. The DAA I’m assuming is from 1968 making it from the Vietnam War era, correct? I would like to purchase either one of the watches but I’m a bit unsure of the first watch timeframe period - WWII or later conflict. Thanks for any information! .
May 4, 20242 yr #2 there should be someone here who knows about AF contracts, but i can tell you for sure, that my wristwatch from vietnam is dated on the back, because i still have it.
