April 24, 20242 yr #2 Its real. Its a re-issue from post 1945 probably for one that was lost. The first award from 1940 would have been hand engraved. He served on the USS Rigel during the Pearl Harbor attack.
April 24, 20242 yr #3 Why do you assume fake? And why would you buy it if you did think it was fake? It is a post WWII official replacement for an earlier medal that was lost i.e. ship sinking and the loss of personal possessions. In this case your man was on the USS Rigel on 12/7/1941 but he may have lost it since the Rigel was not sunk. That is a very desirable medal for Pearl Harbor Collectors Bill

My friend will be pleased that I was wrong, thanks again to everyone!!! Unfortunately I can't say whether it was bought on eBay, but judging by the photo it probably was, as I only received a photo from him.
