I saw this T-37 FH packed in silver wrap and transparent plastic, while searching for one for my collection. It has a label inside holding the FSN number.

I wonder if it is a USGI contract item or a commercial manufacture, like accessories from Texas Armament.

These are usually packed in brown VCI paper. Why transparent plastic?

 

The packaging appears USGI.  A picture of the flat area in front of the hole for the gas cylinder lock screw would provide a better degree of certainty the hider(s) are original DoD contract

High probability the plastic bagged flash hider in question was DoD contracted. However you were asking if it was a commercial manufacturer. The two aren't the same. 

 

Over the years I've seen original DoD T37s surface in various ways. I even found an unopened '(sealed) box of ten. The wrappers in it were marked 1005-726-6434 HIDER,F or HIDER,FLASH and dated either 11-70 or 5/76 respectively. This box was an example of [re]packing  and variations  encountered. 

 

The plastic bagged example was another variation. But again, the only way to determine if it's truly a DoD contracted pronged flash hider,  versus a commercial copy that someone packaged to look like it was USGI, is to open it.

 

Over 15 years ago, I found a large quantity of "original M14 magazines in USGI [cheescloth] packaging" and marked "correctly."  They all  looked original and it was only when some were opened that it was discovered , mixed it the bunch, were magazines were commercial copies- aka, non-DoD/USGI manufactured.

 

Sealed packages are great. But a Schrödinger's cat scenario depending on source and provenance.

Thanks for sharing. You are right in what you say. I can only clarify the FSN number on your T-37 package in the photo is identical to the One I am about to get in the silver wrap plastic  sealed bag. I Feel.comfirtable about the brown  VCI paper, but the one I am to get is mo commercial manufacture. I initially thought so as I have adapters fir the M1 Carbine made by Texas Armament, sealed in transparent plastic.

One day I might come across a T-37 FH in brown VCI paper. But they are quite expensive..

Do you know about M1 Winter Trigger Safety. Just the Safety. I do neef one for my M5 Winter Trigger?

I found the M5 winter trigger to be another fascinating purpose built military shooting accessory.  It can be used on the M1 Garand, Carbine, BAR, and M14.  Many are quick to call them dangerous. I question these unsubstantiated comments.

 

The percieved problems encountered with the M5 and the latter stamped version, can be corrected with proper instruction and situational awareness.  The trigger itself is not inherently the issue.  Lack of training is often the culprit when problems arise with any established weapons platform.

 

Unfortunately,  I don't have an extra extended saftey at this time, but they do add additional level of saftey to the triggers use.  I have M5 trigger and safety installed a M1 that has the grenade sight plate installed. Both accessories (launcher & trigger) generate questions when displayed.

Hi Michael,

It is comfortable to receive a positive viewpoint on the Winter Trigger discussion. I also find it interesting and can agree on the viewpoint that proper and accurate education will address the danger and careless use of this.

It has been possible to obtain the M5 WT alone by Fulton, and the other type M1 Garand WT is plentiful on eBay.

But it puzzles me that the Winter Trigger Safety is nowhere to find. It should have been issued equally with the WT itself.  I still need to find one for my M5 WT.

I reread your message to me with interest. The M5 Kit looks great on your M1 Rifle. Your M1 Garand collection is impressive. 

The Safety is nowhere to find and that puzzles me, as Winter Triggers are plentiful. Promise me you will think of me should you come across a Safety.

Another thing: Have you ever seen one of these Cellulose Muzzle Tape Cover packages? Issued during WWII but replacing the wellknown Canvas Muzzle Covers and used post WWII. Would like to obtain one if these, made by what today is known as 3M.
