This silver star appeared on Ebay for $750 then was put in bidding then disappeared. This veteran did receive this medal but normally WW2 silver stars are hand engraved and machine engraved, this particular medal is stamped almost like those separation center good conduct medals. It did come with the standard white kia valor award cardboard box but I've never seen a stamped kia silver star can anyone confirm this is authentic? It is a slot brooch medal and it came with both a metal and brass silver star ribbon, the seller was a collector or dealer.

This appears to be pantograph engraving which was used in the later years of WW2, mostly on GCM (as you indicated), but occasionally also on Purple Hearts and other medals.

I believe this medal belonged to Paul H White of the 35th Infantry Division, who earned his first SSM in July, 1944 in Normandy and his second in December, 1944 in Germany (when he was KIA).
