April 13, 20242 yr #1 Prior to Wednesday's Speakers Series, Jody stopped in with a box of artifacts from a father and son that were going to be thrown out after an estate sale. The first group is from the son, who retired from the Air Force as a Colonel. Unfortunately only one medal ( a gorgeous Korean War UN medal) and a few documents remain, but there's a nice set of photos. Mark sends
April 13, 20242 yr Author #2 There's several award docos and orders...he also earned a Bronze Star, but there's nothing in the group about that other than a photo showing it being pinned on...

April 13, 20242 yr Author #5 Colonel Fass' father served in World War I and was in the New York National Guard - he was a policeman in civilian life. He served in the field artillery in World War II. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel, but sadly was killed in an aircraft crash as he was hitching a ride back to Florida. The B-25 that crashed was headed here to Dayton when it crashed immediately after take off. Here's some early photos. It seems that he was in the New York National Guard (and he was awarded the New York CSC) as the newspaper article says he was a long time policeman....
April 13, 20242 yr Author #6 The CSC doco and his well worn Purple Heart (no rim number). His son thankfully entered him in the WWII memorial registry....

Hi mvmhm, If you photographed these photos and documents with your cell phone I think it has to do with the orientation of the phone-camera when the image was taken, The camera remembers the orientation and then shows them as when taken, unless edited . . . . . . . April 13, 20242 yr #14 Very nice group. Glad you could save it. Reminds me of the time a few years ago when a neighbor went to a nursing home. Her relatives cleaned out the house. Her college diploma and teaching certificate were in the trash with lots of family pictures. 😔

Never used a scanner, I couldn't say, I just know that the direction of the camera on a cell phone sometimes locks in the camera direction information and sometimes creates this problem. regards lewis.
