Just recently picked this up, anyone know if there is a way to identify the general? Looks like he was in command of the 25th infantry division judging by the left patch? He's got the name James, I tired looking online but haven't identified him yet. 

still having no luck, the only person that I'm finding is James G. Shanahan however, he was in command of the 25th during Vietnam. But he doesn't have the 7th infantry division listed anywhere on his military recorded, I'm not seeing it anyway. I'm also wondering if James is a last name or a first name, either that or I bought fantasy piece.

A brigadier general does not command a division. He may have commanded a brigade of the division.

As a Brig Gen, he would be the Assistant Divisional Commander, but odd as it seems, got no hits for a Brigadier General James for any earlier time period save for today, even did a check the 1969 O Registers for a James that was Infantry, with the idea that this James wears the 7th Inf Div as a Combat Patch for the Korean War or the DMZ Troubles of the late 1960s, and was the ADC of the 25th Inf Div say in the early to mid 80s, 

that's interesting, you'd think a brigadier general wouldn't be hard to find, but this one I guess is the exception.  

I know this isn't going to be popular but here it goes anyway. Extra small uniforms of any kind are almost impossible to sell, every one wants big ones. So to get rid of them people often sew high end insignia on them. Even if they only get the sum of the parts for them it least it is gone and no longer cluttering up their shop or home. Just think about all the general and paratrooper uniforms you have seen and how many have been a tiny size. Small sizes with great insignia always raises a red flag for me, that is not to say there were no little generals or paratroopers but just something to think about when considering it.

Didn’t notice the micro size until it was mentioned.  Could this jacket have been made-up for little Jimmy (aka “James”) who liked to dress up and play Army? Perhaps his father was active duty in Vietnam and the insignia (other than the stars) reflected dad’s service.  

That's a good possibility that it was for someones son. Or maybe he was a small general. I bought this from Bay State militaria, I can give them a call tomorrow and find out maybe where they got it.

Not so sure he would have been permitted to ride alone in a Huey or Jeep.

I am curious because I am a bit shocked it's not identifiable given the rank and SSI on the uniform. I am by no means a Vietnam expert but the patches, from the name tape to the SSI, seem to be more recent.  

The tapes and color insignia certainly fit right. I would be more inclined to believe as Kurt suggested, that it’s from a Brig Gen, with a son named James for playtime not thinking it’s a total fake creation.

Yeah patches are definitely period correct, I personally don't think its a fantasy piece. But like others said, dad was probably a brigadier general and put all the correct patches on this uniform that he had on his uniform. However he put his son's name one it instead of his, or option 2, he's a small general and he's just hard to identify. But, dads making uniforms for there sons have been around for hundreds of years. That practice probably goes as far back as the revolutionary war at least for American anyway.

to give a late update, I personally don't believe this was made for a general's son, when I received it, I tried it on, and it almost fits me. Keep in mind I'm not a small guy, now I'm not fat either but I'm also not xsmall. I didn't take exact measurements, but I'd say if I was 5lbs smaller the fatigues would have probably fit me. I could be 100% wrong, and this very well could have been made for a child but that would one big child especially for the late 60s. People were smaller back then, so I really do believe this was made for a general to wear. But again, I could be wrong.
