March 22, 20242 yr #2 Well, that patch was never probably ever a Government issues patch in the first place. So there is that standpoint. Add in that in the 70s and 80s these were probably made by any number of makers, and sold all over the place. Yours was clearly sewn to something. Could have been a flight suit, a flight jacket, a denim jacket, kid’s Halloween costume. who knows. The detail to the design is really poor tho. And it just says TOMCAT versus the version that I think is more common and says “Anytime baby” - so I will say it’s a copy of the more common version of the basic design. And thus probably on some faux flight jacket or kids jacket or costume or something. Not trying to be snarky, it’s just a rather tough question to answer in this instance.
March 22, 20242 yr #3 Just to add to what MWalsh has stated, The Grumman Corporation had both the Tomcat & "Anytime Baby" patches made. In fact, they had many variations of patches for all of the aircraft they manufactured. When I was a kid back in the 1980's my neighbor worked for Grumman and they had a gift shop for the employees at the facility. He would bring me home decals, the patches & even a Grumman jacket. I had my Mother sew some of the patches to the jacket & I still have it. As you can see, there are both the Tomcat & the "Anytime Baby" patches sewn to the jacket. The quality of the patches on my jacket are superior in detail so I might have to agree your patch may be a "knock off" of sorts. Hope this helps!
