March 20, 20242 yr #1 I was wondering what the correct UID code is for the colt a2? Is it rectangular like the FN cadge codes are? Or is it a small round one? According to what I read on AR-15.com, apparently colts had the round cadge codes then went to the rectangular ones like FN has. Is this true? Also what is the correct cadge code and parts number for the UID tag for a colt a2?
March 21, 20242 yr #2 I don’t think that it’s necessarily that cut and dry. I believe that UID tags were installed my unit armorers and I’m not sure they’d all be exactly the same on all M16a2’s. But I’d lean towards this one… Still from Carolina Laserworks and 13629 is the cage for Colt Defense.
March 22, 20242 yr #3 The original UIDs were, as discussed above, applied by unit or Bn supply personnel using a machine that they input the sn# and NSN into. They tagged all weapons and NVGs as well as other sensitive items at the same time. It produced a thin foil UID sticker. Never saw a factory applied M16A2 sticker as everywhere I went the A2 was gone and replaced briefly with the A4 and then the M4s both of which came with stickers on them. Never saw a round one of any kind. Rebuilds had stickers applied from the depo (ANAD) that did the rebuild; most all M16A2s have been rebuild once or twice if they are still around at all. colt cage is- 13629 M16A2 nsn is- 1005-01-128-9936
March 22, 20242 yr Author #4 yeah, that makes sense that the supply personnel would be the ones to tag the weapons. I know the new colts have the tag already engraved on the lower, I'll end up getting the tag above, is the part number pictured above correct for an a2?
March 23, 20242 yr #5 Ehh… I’m pretty sure that 12972700 is the part number specific to an M4 variation but you’ll have to do some research. It is worth noting that UID’s are kind of a new thing. I believe that they just started doing them in the early 2010’s. Between then and now A2’s weren’t necessarily a primary weapon that was issued so you probably don’t see too many photos of issued A2’s with UID’s. I’m Air Force, not Army, but I was issued an A2 when I was in Iraq around 2008-2009 and I’m really sure that it didn’t have a UID. When it comes to cloning, I guess it comes down to what time period you’re trying to go for. The A2 is a pretty basic setup. Definitely do your own thing but I wouldn’t worry about a UID tag for an A2 clone. Just keep it basic, beat it up, get a “silent sling”. Maybe add a bayonet and some cool PASGT gear.
