March 25, 200917 yr #1 Hello: Maybe I missed it somewhere, but can someone tell me what Marine Division were the China Marines/4th Marine Regiment a part of from 1927 - 1941? Thanks, Ed
March 25, 200917 yr #2 Ed, I am by no means an expert on this but, as I undertand this there were no Marine Divisions until after Pearl Harbor and the 1st Marine Division was formed. Before 12/41 they acted as seperate Marine Regiments and the Regiments could be grouped in to expeditionary units depending on the mission. In World War I the Marines were only a Brigade. I am sure others with more indepth knowledge can expand on this. Dennis

March 26, 200917 yr #4 ...Marine Regiments...could be grouped in to expeditionary units depending on the mission... This document indicates that 4th Marines were a component of "Marine Corps Expeditionary Forces" in Shanghai, China, in 1932 (from the Kiaiokalewa collection; used by permission).
