February 5, 20242 yr #1 I have a first rangers battalion knife that I believe is authentic however it has a U.S. stamp on the handle. Any ideas or did somebody just stamp “US” into later on?
February 5, 20242 yr #2 Produced in Australia during World War II, these knives were mistakenly misnamed as Battalion Ranger Knives" despite the fact that the Ranger Battalion served in Europe, not the Pacific. Most were purchased by US serviceman in Australia during the war.
February 5, 20242 yr #3 I have read the US stamped ones were made after the war, but the owner could have stamped the US on it. I purchased mine from the original owner, he stated he picked it up in Australia during WW2. He was in the merchant marine. Dennis aka nifman
February 5, 20242 yr #4 Frank Trzaska's reproduction recognition page: http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/ranger.htm I might be mistaken but I think the originals are fairly rough / crude cast, and without the large US marking on the handle.

Most were purchased by US serviceman in Australia during the war. Actually, 6th Ranger Battalion (only) served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. However, M.H. Cole referred to this style of knife as the "1st Ranger Battalion Knife," which only served in the ETO hence, decades of confusion for collectors. Best, V/r Lance
