December 19, 20232 yr #1 Would these modified insignia (w/ sew-on loops) be post WWI era fantasy pieces? Thanks, Patrick
December 19, 20232 yr #2 This style insignia is not fantasy. This type of insignia was made and worn in the WW1era. However, whether they are original WW1 period or not? ??? That is the tough part. The basic Signal Corps branch insignia from the WW1 period are easy to find and inexpensive. So, if the underlying Signal Corps insignia is original, that does not mean the insignia in this configuration is original, because it's all about those little silver wings being original or not. Fake little silver wings can be added to a Signal Corps branch insignia. And, I don't know how you tell. I waited to add such insignia to my collection until I found one "out in the wild" (i.e. a not a militaria dealer). If you find one in a flea market junk box for 5 bucks, good chance it's real. If $175 on a dealer site - well...that's a roll of the dice. These look rather convincing to me. If I had the chance to buy them, it would depend who is selling and the price.

Kurt- Thanks for your insightful comments. The insignia were previously obtained in a mixed grouping of Signal Corps & USAAS insignia. After cost averaging...I only paid a few bucks for them.
