Looking for input on the value of this original framed USN wrap brooch Bronze Star Medal and citation D-Day invasion Normandy. It is in very good condition, photos showing glare from the glass.

 

Original WWII wrap brooch Bronze Star Medal and typed frame citation to LtCdr Charles F Southward, Executive Officer of an LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) during the D-Day invasion of Normandy H-Hour June 6, 1944.

 

Citation:

 

For meritorious and courageous performance of duty as Executive Officer , SEVENTH Beach Battalion during the invasion of the Normandy coast of France on 6 June, 1944.

 

Pushing its way through the obstacles off the beach at H-Hour plus one hundred minutes the bow of the LCI (L) on which Lieutenant Commander Southward was embarked was split by an exploding mine. As his LCI (L) approached the beach, a barrage of artillery and machine gun fire swept the ship. By his skillful leadership  he succeeded in landing his party of five officers and thirty five enlisted men and accomplished their mission in organizing their sector of the beachhead. Under intense enemy fire he he succeeded in setting up communication facilities on the beach. Although severely burned during the explosions on the craft, Lieutenant Commander Southward exercised a high devotion of duty by remaining with his party even though medical treatment for his burns was not available and thereby materially contributed to the success of the operation.

 

The courageous leadership under fire and outstanding devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Commander Southward reflect credit on himself and were in keeping with the best traditions of the United States Naval service.

Historic group for sure, do you have his Purple Heart?

I would think North of $1000 because of the D-Day connection. Almost all of these came un-named but it would be nice to know for sure. 

I’d first want to know if the medal is engraved with his name, and the style of engraving! 

Also, the flag at the top of the document is not something I’ve seen before on ww2 documents.. So where did the document come from.. ?  Looks made up to me.. I’d pass on it.
