August 2, 20232 yr #1 SSgt William A. Muller 398th Infantry Regiment, L Co. 100th Infantry Division William A. Muller was born on August 19, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio. He enlisted into the US Army on May 14, 1942. He joined up with the 398th Infantry Regiment of the 100th Infantry Division, falling in with L Company. Muller rose to the rank of staff sergeant, serving as a combat leader. He fought in the intense fighting through the Vosges Mountains, Bitche, and up through Germany. During his time with the 100th Infantry Division, he received a Bronze Star Medal for actions carried out in Bitche, France, where the 100th saw their most intense fighting and acquired the nickname “Sons of Bitche.” Muller was also wounded in action while in France. At the end of the war, he transferred and went home with the 12th Armored Division. William Muller passed away on January 30, 1992 in Sarasota, Florida. Some unique features of SSgt Muller’s Ike jacket is his partially offset bullion CIB, theater-made bullion 100th insignia, theater-made DUIs, and the green stripe below the chevrons, signifying that Muller was a combat leader.

August 2, 20232 yr #4 Thanks for showing this. My mom’s first cousin was in the same battle as your Sergeant in the Vosges mountains. He was in the 397th of the 100th Div. Very nice example Ike jacket and not often seen to the 100th I think.
December 11, 20241 yr Author #6 I recently discovered that his Bronze Star was for heroic action near Bitche, France.
