April 30, 20233 yr #1 A c. 1881 cabinet photo of a USMC Bandsman taken at a Washington DC studio. Lots of little details in this one.
April 30, 20233 yr #2 Nice image Dirk. Would have preferred a cornet player, but hey, we cant have everything! Thanks for sharing.
April 30, 20233 yr #4 Yeah, they throw you some pretty good stuff! As a trumpet player, I am just a little biased. Once again just a great image, I really like the Marine band images. Lots of pomp and circumstance.
September 25, 20232 yr #6 Holy hell how did I miss this one...I guess because I was sleeping behind my desk in the office homeless at the time Awesome image. Haven't stumbled on a portrait with that headgear for myself yet
September 28, 20232 yr #8 Very Groovy image Dirk Photo from the US National Archives - The President's Own United States Marine Band 1891
September 29, 20232 yr #10 I agree, that is fantastic! I have a cornet from that time period and one of the USMC snare drums like the one on the far right in my collection. I love the pomp and fanfare of the Marine band!

September 30, 20232 yr Author #12 Never worry Brig I will stay with China Marines, unless I find a sleeper out there…
October 1, 20232 yr #14 Now if only one of you could find me a photo of a Marine Drum Major between around 1935 and '38 wearing the chevron with three up, two flat rockers, and a baton in the center. One of the shortest lived insignia and have had no luck finding pics.
