April 27, 20233 yr #1 Was there ever a Project Scoot or is this patch a completely made up fabrication? It has a real nice feel and look to it but I still have my suspicions. USAFpatches shows it as repo but other patch site does not show it at all. All opinions welcome.
April 28, 20233 yr #2 Yes, there was a Project SCOOT-CE, which was the resupply of Cambodia according to 'The Airlifter', Vol XXI: Quote In 1975 Colonel Baginski transferred to U Tapao, Thailand to command project SCOOT-CE, the resupply of Cambodia SCOOT-CE = Supply of Cambodia Out Of Thailand - Commercial Enterprise
April 28, 20233 yr #3 Found this from a declassified report: Quote In early April, the uncertain status of the Mekong as the primary LOC to Phnom Penh prompted Brigadier General Cleland to request USAF airlift of JP-4 jet engine fuel from U-Tapao, Thailand, to Pochentong Airfield. General Cleland intended to build and maintain a five-day supply of fuel as the KI and FANK contested control of the Mekong. The airlift was part of a plan known as SCOOT (Supply of Cambodia Out of Thailand), which the JCS had initiated in November 1972 to facilitate continuation of Military Assistance Program aid to the Khmer Republic when the U.S. staging bases in South Vietnam became unavailable. (The plan called for the development of surface LOCs between Thailand and the Khmer Republic, in particular a rail line to Battambang, but it also provided for airlift of supplies in case the enemy interdicted the Government LOCs.) While General Cleland had employed only a small part of the airlift option, the implementation of that part was evidence of the enemy's pressure on the Khmer Government's LOCs. https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADB355566.pdf
April 29, 20233 yr Author #4 Thanks guys. So there was a Project Scoot which is nice to know. Was there actually a patch for this project or possibly a locally made item for a select few?
April 29, 20233 yr #5 I know nothing of the program, but the construction of the patch looks right for being Thai made from that time period.
