Hello, My first post here.

 

I bought these 20 years ago and I don't know much about them.

 

I have a WW2 Pineapple grenade with a hang tag that says "Inspected & approved 6-Mar 45 Lt O'Brian Ordnance Officer 135th NCB (L.E.A.)

and a Japanese Grenade with a tag that says "Inspected & approved 12-Mar 45 Lt J. R.O'Brian Ordnance Officer 135th NC Batt (L.E.A.)

 

The fuses were removed, fired and the filler was dumped and brought back as trophies. 

 

The Japanese grenade smells like black powder and there are still traces inside.

 

I think the unit is 135th Naval Construction Battalion which was on Tinian. Their unit book is at this link:

Can you tell me what they are and what they are worth?

Two nice pieces. Worth? Not willing to state what someone will give, but the tags and “ provenance” increases the value to serious collectors. A ballpark figure based on what I paid for mine ( similar condition- No provenance) would be - $400-500 for the US, $500-600 for the Japanese. These figures I believe would be the higher end and apply to a serious collector.

Reasoning: the Japanese grenade is complete, and Markings, color, etc, a perfect specimen. Same with the US. The tags add value.

                         Yes..Two very nice grenades.  Would it be possible to post a pic of the top of the U.S. grenade spoon?  The AF on the side of your grenade means it was made by the American Fireworks co.  Nice OD painted fuze.  

hard to read but I believe it says:

Possibly an ordnance mark and 4 on the bottom right

 

Thanks for the pic Ken,  I was thinking it was going to be a M10A2.  It looks like I can barley see a circle K  right under the UZ (in fuze) which means eastman kodak.   

You are right, There is a faint circled K under UZ in FUZE.

 

I didn't notice it.

I bought a WWII U.S. Mk2 for 5 dollars at an estate sale, and thought it was worth about 125-150 dollars. I understand that this is a nicer example, and that is what people might pay for it but if mine is worth even 300 dollars, I'll be real happy.

I’d pay $300 for your US grenade in a heart beat.

well, I don't know if this affects the value too much, but its a practice grenade with blue paint. other than a few chips in the paint its in pretty nice shape. wouldn't really want to sell it, since its one of my first military pieces  which I got a few years back, but if you would like I could upload a picture of it.

 

however I wouldn't be able to post a photo right now, as I am away from home but when I get back ill try to upload one.

I was thinking about one like the one that started this thread.
