March 29, 20233 yr #1 Need instructions on disassembling a M53 Mortar Fuse. What are the steps and procedures? I have one that is missing the brass safety pin and have found a replacement that I wish to install.
March 30, 20233 yr #2 Hi John, Dont know if you have these pics so will post. Do you have the lock-pin? I believe that is what holds the safety-pin in.
March 30, 20233 yr #3 Most fuzes you start at the base with the booster, then work your way up/into. The set screws on the side will have to be removed as you go too. If I remember correctly, remove the base booster, then set screws. Under the booster there should be another screw holding in the booster lead and separate one for the guide lock pin. Then the head of the fuze, I can't remember if it's pressed or screwed on to the body, but that is that last major part that will come off, you can see the line between the different colors of the metal, that's were it would come apart if screwed. Under the head is the firing pin, primer and delay pellet/element.

It appears to have some corrosion on the threads. Do you have a suggestion regarding the best way to work/lubricate aluminum threads?
March 30, 20233 yr #6 The boosters I have seen, a lot use a sealant on the threads, so it could be that or corrosion. Personaly I'd try PB first, then a little heat and more PB. I also would use a vice and/or locking pliers, I have some with a soft grippy rubber that won't make marks on the metal, that way you can really get some torque on it.
