Artillery Valise

I suspect that this valise is authentic, possibly post-Civil War and maybe for a militia unit. I would appreciate others' opinions, though. 

Here's a little bit more about it. It is leather, covered in blue wool with red trim. The crossed cannons and letter B appear to have been applied at the time the valise was made as there are no attachment devices penetrating the interior of the valise. The leather straps are unmarked but are dry and cracked, suggesting age. The stitching is machine sewn.

From what research I have been able to do (Steffen, Todd, as well as period artillery and ordnance manuals), it seems that regulation valises were made of either leather or cloth. Pictures on-line show exclusively leather valises, although pre-war officer valises seem to be cloth.

Anyway, that's where I am with this. The valise was bequeathed to me, and I am considering selling it at the Mansfield, Ohio, Civil War show.
