November 18, 20223 yr #1 I recently received this and am thrilled. The Ike is absolutely Korean war with the lining and zipper. 505 PIR DUI insignia on the shoulders. The overseas cap has be stumped. The braid is "brown"?? It is clearly not officers (he was a Pvt). The set is named, but I can't find anything on him. The last four of his ASN are in the cap nd the jacket: "L-3292". Also it came with an image of the vet wearing the cap and jacket (he's on the left). Anyone know about the braid color? I looked in the research section and didn't see anything that matched.
November 18, 20223 yr #2 Is there any information that ties this uniform to the Korean War? The yellow on green chevron makes me think this setup is mid to late 50s. As for the piping on the garrison cap, it was probably once light blue but has since faded and stained over time. I’ve had a few in the past that looked similar.
November 18, 20223 yr Author #3 Garrison cap is most definitely not faded or stained due to smoke. Pulling back on the cap edges covered and rolling the braid shows no indication of any other color, other than brown. As for the jacket, the inside tag denotes the 20 May 1953 contract date... So it is certainly possible for a late 1950's set up. The son said his dad was in Korea - but again, there is no ribbon bar or other ear markings to show a CIB, etc. Perhaps he was stationed there in the occupation? Ultimately, knowing the braid color will help me narrow down a branch assignment, looking for him. (ie, infantry, artillery, medical, etc). Me being former infantry, again, it's clearly not discolored blue. Thanks for any help. You may be spot on with the jacket timeline, though.
November 18, 20223 yr #4 "He was in Korea" doesn't mean during the war, there have been US troops in Korea sense the end WWII and they are still there. With a contract date of 1953 it was probably made too late for the war and with the yellow stripes there is little doubt it was worn in the late 1950s. The piping on the hat is probably darker than usual tan quartermaster piping. It appears to be a proper 82nd A/B uniform just not from the Korean War.
November 18, 20223 yr Author #5 Thanks. I did state in my previous post: " Perhaps he was stationed there in the occupation". I appreciate the update on the possibility of Quartermaster.
