-Hi everyone, I'm looking for a cover for the SPH-4B, is there any such thing? I have seen covers of HGU-55, 68, 84 but never of SPH-4 or HGU-56 :)

- And also these covers in camouflage colors like desert, chocolate chip, tigerstripe for this HGU-55, 68, 84 where can I buy or find them other than Ebay? It's a pity because I'm in Vietnam, I'm heavily dependent on Ebay and there's no one on there that sells such covers for flying helmets. By the way, I'm building a desert storm SPH-4B, anyone with a full configuration of the NVS equipped SPH-4B can give me a picture for reference?

The SPH-4 and SPH-4B never had any official covers made for them as that is more of a USN and USMC thing to have with flight helmets and neither the 4 or 4B were used by them.   There was some people in the Army that have un officially made a cover for them, usually woodland camo but again this was un official and very less commonly done in the Army.  The Army also frowned upon  using the camo tape like the USAF had on their flight helmets as they said it would potentially cover up and hide any cracks that may have occurred in the shell and couldn't be inspected properly by life support techs.   For the USN and USMC, their helmet covers are made the the riggers in the shop and there is a company who also makes covers as well here in the US, so pretty much that 1 company or getting a cover second hand off ebay is pretty much the only place to find em.

 

If you wanted a camo covered SPH series helmet, you would need to find a USN/USMC SPH-3 series helmet which had woodland and desert covers made for them but was usually for the single visor ANVIS housing.  To my knowledge a 4B style housing with dual visors and ANVIS mount was never used on a SPH-3, just the ramshorn type dual visor assembly without any ANVIS mount.

 

In regards to Desert Storm, the SPH-4B wasn't out yet, it was just coming to existence in 1991 so none were probably actually used.  If you look at most of the dates on them if its from 1991 they were made after January or February.  Army helmets used in Desert Storm would be a standard SPH-4 with the regular single visor housing with the modification for the AN/PVS-5 NVGs with the cut away face piece, and then the standard SPH-4 with the ANVIS single visor housing for the AN/AVS-6(V)1 NVGs.
