Rare canteen variant

Featured Replies

Hi , this is my first post on the forum. I recently picked up two rare variants of the M1942 canteens. These examples were made by USS Co and FE Co in 1943. They were made from aluminium after it was re-released by the war department and have a characteristic horizontal weld. These canteens were made by the same companies who made the enamel canteens in 1942. Other makers I have come across include RSE and SM Co

Great pick-up as those two canteens are hard to find.  I would agree that the FE Co is rare but the I believe the USS Co would be on the very uncommon side.  Unfortunately, your FE Co is missing it's original flat top plastic cap, which is not uncommon as they tended to break easy.  I have attached a pic of my unissued FE Co below.

Here's an RSE I have. I know the OP mentioned this manufacturer. Is it fairly uncommon as well?

Hi , I believe the canteen was as issued with the later plastic cap I found images of a box of unissued canteens with the later style cap
