I have a U.S. Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903, Serial #9747, mid barrel C126, end of barrel top has RIA with a flaming bomb symbol and 1-19, end of barrel bottom has P. I took some photos of the gun. What caliber would it be--0.30-'06? The photo of the large plate on the bottom that is usually blank, has the Cherokee markings of my great uncles family. His name was Hari Van Hoefen (and a photo shows his name stamped into the wood). His father was Dutch, and a doctor at a Cherokee reservation, and married a full-blooded Cherokee woman. Not sure if this gun was his or his father's. Any help understanding the other markings, value, etc. would be great. From what I can find it looks like the 1-19 at the top end of the barrel would be the date: January 1919. I'm attaching 10 photos--thanks!

Welcome to the forum. It's great to have "family" guns. I'm no expert, but I can tell you a few things. Your Model 1903 rifle has been "sporterized", by cutting down and shaping the stock changing the butt plate (might even be a different stock), adding target sights and other things. Sporterizing military guns was quite common when these were plentiful and inexpensive. It is somewhat painful for military collectors to see this now as they are much more valuable and interesting in original military configuration. It appears that you very early, pre-WW I rifle was likely rebuilt after the war if the barrel is dated 1919.
