March 24, 20233 yr #6 I know the son of the guy whose medal this is. He’s my teacher. His name is Larry Wiser. I just thought if any way possible I could figure out a way to give him this medal. I know. Long shot but it would be awesome

Long shot but it would be awesome I'm really not trying to butt in here since it isn't my medal, etc. but you need to be aware that people don't always want items that they have gotten rid of back. Before you go to all of the effort to reclaim the medal, you might want to see if your teacher would want the medal back. I've told this story here before, but here goes.... Many years ago, I was called by a veteran to come pick up his military items. The vet had congestive heart failure and knew that the end was near. When I got over there, the house was full of family members- sons, a daughter, and grandkids. I was very nervous about the deal because I was sure that someone was going to decide that they wanted the items. The adult kids were sitting with me and their dad the vet as he went through the items that he had. They showed some interest, but never made a sound about wanting to keep any of it. As I was loading up the car with the couple of boxes, I mentioned to the oldest son that I was keeping everything and that if they decided they wanted it back, that they could have it. I was only the caretaker. The son took me into his dad's study. It was filled with bowling trophies. The son said that his dad was in the war before he was married and dad never talked about the war. The family went to the bowling alley two nights a week and on most weekends for tournaments. All of the kids bowled. Where most of us wouldn't think twice about old bowling trophies, these were what was important to the family. This is what the man who was their father loved to do. This was what the family did as a family. The old war stuff sat in boxes in the basement. I was the only guy who ever talked to their dad about the war. they were happy that the items were going to someone who would appreciate them. I still see some of the family from time to time. Nobody has ever expressed any desire to get any part of it back. My two cents, Allan
March 24, 20233 yr Author #8 hi allan i had this with a ww1 trio to a soldier from scotland his son was living in the same house in 1990s so i got in touch he didnnt want them . i also spoke to the daughter of a VC winner my old boss knew they sold the VC and bought a copy its a shame when this happens but it tends to put you off trying , as a byeline i have a waterloo medal to the 3rd foot guards (scots gds ) the family know i have it as i was in touch but they cant afford it prob nearlt 4000 uk pounds cheers barry
