I am very pleased to have kept this group together.

 

After numerous searches on the internet I was not able to find anything about Col. Hendricks.

 

From what I can tell he was in Auburn university Army ROTC and went into the 10th cavalry recon.

 

He served in the 710th Tank Battalion and well as the 25th Infantry Division.

 

He served in Vietnam receiving several Bronze Stars, an Air Medal and CIB.

 

You can see by the insignia that he had a full career.

 

 

The collection sits on top of two captured Communist flags.

So, there is a Thomas E Hendricks, born 1/1/32, from South Carolina who served in the Army.  He was in the armored branch and was a Major in 1969.  He attended  Clemson though.

I’m 1970 he was promoted to Lt Col.

That’s him, I was wrong about where he went to school.

Absolutely fantastic grouping. Love that you were able to keep it all together. I’m curious how a guy who was seemingly all armor/cav got the CIB though you did mention some service with an Infantry Division. I really like the RVN tank badge. 
 

Also thought it was strange that the Army registry write up mentions a 5 year enlistment but he has no Good Conduct Medal or a star on his NDSM. Maybe it was a reserve or guard enlistment.

What else does it say about him?

 

Here is something I found on line from May 1970.

Could he have been in the 4/23 mechanized infantry of the 25th ID?

His 1st Brigade beer can DIs

I got a photo of Hendricks from 1967, already wearing the CIB, guaranteed he got it as an advisor, most officers no matter their branch and no matter the ARVN unit they served with got a CIB.

Is there any way to find out about his Air Medals?

Three sets of class As the oldest one is Dated 1970.
