The AF fiddles around with its ranks and insignia more than anyone it seems.

As a young troopie my unit's battalion HQ was located on an air base. This was my first exposure to air force ranks--and four decades later, whenever I visit the local air base, I still have to count the stripes and add 1 to determine the wearer's pay grade. I have no idea what ranks they are--I just call everyone 'sarge.'

That's probably why they did that insanity in the first place.

 

Drives us completely nuts... the only ones who like it are the ones who created it and are now retired laughing their arses off.
