I just did some research on this guy and he has a very interesting story. When I get the medal I will post about him.

Just acquired this well used Mexican Border Service medal. It is rim numbered "3824". I believe this number is traceable. Could somebody please look up the number and possibly ID the awardee? Thank you in advance for your time and help!!

Here is the number (3824) on the rim. Hard to see but there is only the number. No "Mno." or "No." On this rim.

Awarded to Frank J Binder, at time of issue he was a corporal assigned to Troop K, 12 Cavalry, Columbus New Mexico. The number of the medal was issued 2 October 1919

I found a photo of his dog tag online. Apparently he was the Bugler in "Troop K" "12th Cav."

 

Update.

The dog tag and medal are now together as a group. I was able to purchase the tag from a collector/digger in New Mexico. The tag was found and dug at Camp Furlong just outside of Columbus, New Mexico. Thanks for looking.

I'm looking for help with anyone who has the list showing recipients of the Mexican Border Medal. I just bought a uniform for a 27th Division Sergeant and there is a faint name inside the jacket. The collar discs identify it from Company M of the 108th Infantry. The name looks like "PALDER" can't say for sure though. The last three letters are definitely "DER" , but the first two are letters are faint. Anyway, the medal was attached to the uniform. It would be great if it was issued to the soldier who wore the uniform, but after almost 100 years it could be a possibility that some put it on to dress up the uniform. Anyway, I have an account on Ancestry.com and will be able to do some homework if this medal was originally part of the uniform. If anyone has the list can you please look up the serial number on the medal and advise me. If the name is anything near what is written inside the jacket then I will have something to go on for my research. Thanks--John

Mexican Border Service Medal number 8312 was issued to Horace Jay Zahn of Buffalo, New York. He served in Company M, 74th Infantry. I think he saw WWI service with Company M, 108th Infantry Regiment, 54th Infantry Brigade, 27th Division. Hope this helps.

I looked up Horace Zahn's records on ancestry and it looks like his service matches up with the uniform. He was with Company M of the 108th Infantry, He was discharged a Sergeant and no wounds were noted on his records. I think the medal does go with the uniform. The name on the inside is still hard to make out but it does looks there is a DER in the last name.

His records also show 13 months overseas, which also matches with the one year of service on the uniform.

Can anyone verify the name connected to medal #8461? Online seller stated Richard T Agar from NY. Just looking for confirmation.
