My ex-wife sometimes evoked this American who had participated in the landing in Provence. His mother was very young at the time and remembered Floyd's visits to his parents, they lived in Nice.
After the war they received from time to time a card reminding them of common memories and then nothing, he had married, children, life what, anything that can try to get rid of certain memories too hard to bear. .
We are approximately in 1999 and living in Normandy for a short time (I am from the South of France) I discovered all the landing sites, museums, ceremonies and everything related to them, very significant in the population forever grateful.
The idea of finding Floyd crossed my ex's mind and she and my computer assistance began researching that lasted for weeks. And one fine day a contact! someone who managed a veterans site had found it !! that's when we learned he was part of the 509th. Then came the first phone call ... My emotionally shaking ex-wife was just able to speak with him, and threw up the idea of inviting him for June 6th. He kindly declined the invitation, specifying that he was retired and it was particularly hard financially to the point of still working at his age (80). They remained in telephone contact and just these calls put the whole house in turmoil, our 2 daughters 6 and 8 years old being fascinated by this story.

D-Day arrived and I saw a tall man deploy as he got out of the car, a deep blue gaze hiding a reserve and kindness that one could guess just by looking at him. What emotions that day for all of us, this man alone represented so many things!
At mealtime he took out his triangle sandwiches which were no match for a tomato mozarella salad!
He was impatient to discover the historical sites, I was still working at the time and I could not accompany them but my ex told me his emotion by stroking a glider on display ... He spoke very little of his facts weapons and always with great humility and modesty, he was always very affected by his fights and we did not insist. We still learned that he had jumped in Italy and Africa in particular.
In his city he had a contact that allowed him to play appearing in films or series certainly in the background but we had seen him a few times on TV.
The day of separation came, I said "thank you, without you we might not speak French today ..." followed by a hug full of emotions.
My ex kept some contact afterwards, I don't know more. My 2 daughters studied in English surely inspired by Floyd I dare believe it.
