I recently purchased an early Inland helmet liner that looks like it was brought nearly unused back put, unfortunately, placed in a damp storage that allowed rust to play havoc with the steel A washers.  Nearly all the A washers were completely covered in rust which bleed down to nearly all the support straps.  With the help of a dremel tool, a dental pick, and Casey's brand rust and blueing removal I have managed to remove the great majority of the rust from each A washer,  I read on this forum that the product Whink works best on fabrics; however, I read that Whink may cause damage to metal and, as the rust stains go right up to the metal A washers I am afraid of using that product.  Had anyone had experience with a situation like this or good offer a good recommendation?

Sorry, i cant give you any advice on how to remove those rust stains on the harness, other using a natural fiber brush to brush out debris and some stains i usually leave things the way they are found. However i just have to say thats an amazing job of removing the rust from the A-washers! Sometimes they are to far gone and just crumble away if you mess with them.
