The squadron pilots and a small cadre of enlisted personnel left Cherry Point for Okinawa. Upon arrival Awase Field (Okinawa) squadron personnel were absorbed into VMF-312 along with the F7F's. The Devilcat insignia was used by this group while they flew the F7F Tigercat from September 21, 1945 to February 10,1946 and prior to their return to the United States.
